This table was made with Afghan Grey Onyx and Guatemalan Rosewood. It is the very first of our pieces to feature stone as a material. The stone chamber concept was suggested to us by a visitor to the Bellevue Museum summer art festival in late July, 2012. The stone material lends itself nicely to the acoustics of the piece, enhancing the resonance and overtones of the music.
It has always been a goal of Michael's to give form and function equal importance in his musical furniture. This guides his designs but also presents challenges in each piece that he welcomes with pleasure. With each piece he stretches himself further, always exploring the possibilities of sound design, new materials and his own creative capabilities.
These photos show the range of forms that have thus far been explored and a taste of what is to come.
